Prof. Alexander Bennet's Lecture "Lingering Mind and Emotional Control"

JAPAN LIBRARY author, Professor Alexander Bennet, recently gave a lecture on "Lingering Mind and Emotional Control" to students visiting Japan through the short-term youth program MIRAI at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His talk included a retelling of his first encounter with the martial art of kendo as a high school student studying abroad in Japan and his subsequent lifelong passion for kendo. His lecture also included demonstrations using a shinai (Japanese kendo sword made of bamboo). Prof. Bennett’s book Bushido and the Art of Living was displayed along with other titles at the JAPAN LIBRARY booth.
Prof. Bennett will also be giving lectures on Bushido to exchange students studying Japanese at the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai in Osaka during the months of October and November.
His book, Bushido and the Art of Living: An Inquiry into Samurai Values was also featured in the book review section of the Japan Times.
